We take a conservative approach to the diagnosis and treatment of Adult ADHD. We agree with the concerns raised by Keith Conners, the psychologist who pioneered the diagnosis and treatment of ADHD, that this condition is over-diagnosed and over-medicated in the United States. An conservative diagnosis requires objective information from family, teachers, instructors, or work supervisors as well as an objective assessment of function, including executive function. Conservative treatment includes the discussion of treatment options other than stimulants, especially for less severe forms of ADHD.
If you were diagnosed as a child with ADHD and this can be confirmed by school records or by your family, we can continue your treatment. Diagnosis as an adult will require objective report from your family, your supervisor, or your instructor as well as objective assessment of your socio-occupational function. Diagnosis cannot be based on self-report or a single brief diagnostic interview.
